Meticulous attention to the details during processing and the farmer’s pride produce a sweetly floral coffee, with brown sugary depth and a distinctive sweetness reminiscent of dried tropical fruits and flavours of rum in the finish.
Located in the mountains above the regional capital Jinotega, the farmers of the SOPPEXCCA co-operative grow coffee under the protective shade of bananas, mangos, and alongside dense forests providing home to rare orchids and winter habitat for hundreds of migratory songbirds.
The cooperative represents 654 families and is recognized around the world as a leader in the movement to empower small-scale farmers, especially women and youth.

More info
Soppexcca, as a cooperative organisation, is developing a working model of broad democratic participation: from the way it works with the farmers in the primary cooperatives, to its Youth Movement, to give opportunities for young people from the communities to have professional opportunities in coffee and support the cooperative’s activities. Opportunities include training to become cuppers, baristas, and quality ‘promoters’ to support members to improve the quality of their coffee. There is also an internal audit team to help the farmers and cooperative prepare for the different certifications.
