At Ozone Coffee Roasters, creativity flows through everything we do - from the way we roast our beans to the way we build our community. This May, we tuned into another creative force that shapes Aotearoa deeply: our music.
NZ Music Month is a time to turn the volume up on the diverse and ever-evolving soundscape of New Zealand. Music here is more than entertainment - it’s identity, culture, protest, story, and celebration. It’s the familiar sound of te reo Māori layered into pop melodies, the heartbeat of a late-night indie set in Tāmaki Makaurau, and the genre-defying experimentation happening in studios, garages, and bedrooms across the country.
This year, we’re proud to highlight our friends at Big Pop, a music and audio production powerhouse based in Auckland. Whether they’re helping to craft the next hit single or elevating voices through sync in film, TV and advertising - the team at Big Pop is made up of world-class creatives who understand the art of storytelling through sound. They’re part of a vital ecosystem nurturing both iconic artists and the next generation of talent.
NZ’s music scene has always punched above its weight. From pioneers like Lorde, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Marlon Williams to cultural icons like LAB and Ladi6 - our homegrown artists continue to make waves globally while staying deeply rooted in our unique sense of place.
And there’s a new wave coming. Independent artists like Rita Mae, Fazerdaze, Lontalius, Jessica Leigh, and Adam Snow are carving out space with fresh voices, fearless experimentation and fierce authenticity. These are the artists in our headphones and playing late-night sets that leave you buzzing long after the lights go out.
As a business built on community and creativity, we’re inspired by the musicians who help shape our cultural rhythm. This month, we listened closely and celebrated loudly.
From our brew bar to your stereo - ngā mihi to all the artists, producers, sound engineers, venue owners, and music lovers out there. Aotearoa’s music is something truly special, and we’re proud to turn it up with you.
