Aerial view over coffee growing in Caranavi, Bolivia

Finca La Linda is the cornerstone of Agricafe’s Buena Vista Project, located in the lush, mountainous region of Caranavi, Bolivia. With its fertile soil, subtropical climate, and optimal altitude, the farm is ideally suited for cultivating specialty coffee. Sixty percent of the land is preserved as a natural reserve, highlighting Agricafe’s commitment to biodiversity and sustainability. As the first farm where Agricafe began producing its own coffee, La Linda has been a hub of innovation, introducing varietals like Java, Catuai, and SL28. It continues to serve as a model for sustainable farming and a testing ground for experimental lots.

The Pink Honey Java lot from the 2023 harvest exemplifies Agricafe’s cutting-edge approach to coffee processing. This honey process begins with anaerobic fermentation of red cherries in sealed containers, followed by careful monitoring of pH and microbial activity. After fermentation, the cherries are depulped, revealing a pale pink mucilage that gives the coffee its name. The beans are then dried on raised beds, producing a distinctive pinkish liquid. Agricafe’s investment in microlot infrastructure and precision techniques enables consistent innovation, and this Java varietal (originally brought to Bolivia via Nicaragua) delivers exceptional flavour despite its low yield and cultivation challenges.
